I started hitting the gym when I was about 15 years old and just like anyone else, I needed a gym bag to store my stuff. I can’t remember how many gym bags have I gone through, but it’s probably more than I can count with 2 hands.
First of all, I have to admit that I am not the most careful person. Not to say that I am very careless, but I definitely do not go to extremes to keep my things in perfect condition. Well, most of my books are wrapped in plastic wrapping and my old iPhone died after almost 2 years for no reason. That’s some saving grace right there, I guess?
5 years ago, I decided I have had enough going through gym bag after gym bag. All I wanted was a gym bag that could last me forever. At the point in time, I came across the company Ironmind that specializes in “tools of the trade for serious strength athletes”. Besides manufacturing strength-training equipment and accessories, they also publish books, DVDs and the quarterly magazine MILO: A Journal For Serious Strength Athletes.
When I saw the Ironmind Tough-As-Nails Mini Duffel on their website, it was a no brainer.
I use it primarily to store my gym gear and common personal items. Although it says mini duffel, it is not that mini in size, but neither is it large as well. It does look a little small in the photo because it’s empty and deflated, but I would say it’s a medium size.
These are usually the gym gear that I store in my bag:
- Nike Romaleos Weightlifting shoes (these shoes are a tank!)
- Leather weightlifting belt
- Gym towel
- Massage balls
- Wrist straps and wrist wraps
- Dip/pull-up belt
- Knee sleeves
- Shaker bottle (not shown)
This is the front pocket where I store common personal items as you can see above. With space to spare.
Ironmind’s tagline – Stronger Minds, Stronger Bodies. I wouldn’t doubt that. And I would add Stronger Equipment. This bag is as they say, tough as nails.
It is made of Cordura fabric, known for their durability and resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs. Cordura is widely used in military wear and performance apparel. Sounds tough enough for you?
This is the description from their website:
Carry your things with confidence. IronMind’s Tough-As-Nails Bags are proven for years around the world; great-looking; and constructed of super-tough Cordura with YKK zippers in task-specific designs–all made in the USA, of course.
Mini-Duffle : Basic and compact, this go-to bag is for quick missions, when you’re traveling light. Toss in lifting gear and head for the gym; or throw in some essentials and jump on a plane.
Having used the Ironmind Tough-As-Nails Mini Duffel for 5 years and ongoing, I certainly agree with their description. Light, compact and tough. But great-looking? You decide.
After storing everything that is mentioned above, there is still about 20% space to spare. And because the handles are quite long in length, it actually allows you to carry it like a normal bagpack over your shoulders. That’s useful for times when you overload the bag and you get tired from holding it with your hands.
A simple bag with a simple review. The Ironmind Tough-As-Nails mini duffel is for those who want a no-frills, light and durable gym bag that will last them for years. Check it out HERE.
